Cove Davis

Newton School Committee Candidate for Ward 8

My name is Cove Davis and I'm excited to be running for the open Ward 8 seat on the Newton School Committee. The election is city-wide and all registered Newton voters can vote for my election on November 2, 2021. I hope I can count on your vote!

I am a life-long educator who is passionate about quality education and the opportunities that it can unlock for students. My career has included teaching and leadership roles in all levels of K-12 education. I began my career as a teacher in an international school in Amman, Jordan, prior to returning to the US where I took on a role as a school counselor in the Philadelphia public schools. After several years in leadership roles of increasing responsibility as a Dean of Students and Assistant Principal, I became a middle school Principal in Chelsea, Massachusetts. I currently oversee a partnership of five Massachusetts school districts that are collaborating to improve teacher training and enhance educational outcomes for students. I have a Bachelors degree in Psychology from Haverford College, a Masters degree in School Counseling from The University of Pennsylvania, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy from Boston University.

My husband and I moved to Newton in 2012 with our two young sons largely because of the reputation of the Newton public schools. Our children have had some great experiences in the schools, but over the course of the past few years we have become concerned with aspects of their education and with some communication we have received from NPS. This past year has been especially difficult and I believe that NPS must do better going forward.

As the Newton schools prepare to operate in the "new normal", I'm excited at the prospect of helping to set the vision for the District not only for the post-pandemic near-term, but more importantly for the long-term. My professional experience as an educator and leader give me confidence that we can help strengthen Newton's schools while improving the student experience, and help Newton remain a model school district within the Commonwealth and across the country.

I am thrilled at the prospect of representing Ward 8 on the Newton School Committee, and I look forward to getting to know you during the course of my campaign. Please don't hesitate to reach out to share your hopes, dreams and concerns for the Newton Public Schools. Let's work together to make them better!
